New Brighton is the Wirral's northern - most town. For the first half of the last century, the resort was the North West's premier holiday destination.
New Brighton had a tower that was higher than the one at Blackpool, there was a pier, two outdoor swimming pools, funfairs and a direct ferry service to Liverpool.
Sadly, the town is now a shadow of its former self. With the tower dismantled, the pier taken away, the swimming pools gone and the ferry service terminated - the resort is nothing like it used to be.
With the introduction of low - cost foreign holidays, traditional resorts such as New Brighton have become another chapter in British history books.
